Legal analysis of genetics and genomics complete!
The SIENNA project completed our research on the legal developments, issues and human rights challenges for human genetics and genomics. We have covered the legal developments in different international legal orders (UN, ASEAN, AU, CoE and OAS) and in the EU, and completed studies in 12 countries, where we have looked at relevant laws and human rights standards on the national level.
(Image removed) We have looked at human germline editing rules, genetic testing and screening, including, prenatal genetic testing and newborn screening, and regulation of direct-to-consumer advertising of genetic testing. Our national studies in Brazil, China, France, Germany, Greece, Netherlands, Poland, Spain, South Africa, Sweden, United Kingdom, and the US show how these countries have dealt with some of the key issues in human genetics and genomics.
Right now, the results are with the European Commission. In the coming months, the results will feed into our efforts to develop proposals for enhancing existing legal frameworks. We will continue to engage with policy-makers, legislators, regulators and legal scholars to get input, identify changes and decide what actions to take in the future.
